DIXON has been busy over the past year and there are two new recordings to
tell you about.
Rhapsody
Later in the Spring, DON DIXON & THE JUMP RABBITS (Jim Brock & Jamie Hoover)
will release "The Nu-Look", a spunky collection of club-friendly rock.
Although JIM and JAMIE have both been involved with DIXON in the studio and
on the road for twenty years, this is the first record they've made together
from start to finish and it reflects the fun, powerful style that they've
brought to the stage for hundreds of performances...it will be available as
a digital album and a cd. There's even talk of vinyl.
DIXON had this to say:
"I wanted to make a record like "Disraeli Gears", you know, a power trio
album...that's the approach this band has always taken in our live
shows...but i knew i didn't want to write a bunch of songs that sounded like
i wished i was 25 again...i don't wish that...so we set up in JAMIE's studio
& i taught them "300 Pounds of Joy", an old WILLIE DIXON song i'd learned
off a HOWLING WOLF record when i was in high school...we recorded it live in
the studio, no overdubs...it had everything i was looking for...so i kept
digging around for songs that seemed to fit our style...we ended up with a
bunch of stuff that was written by my friends when they were young...so i'd
show the guys the songs & we'd record them that way & even though i ended up
putting organ or piano on some of them, we continued in the tradition of
those classic trio records...all three of us contributing to the
arrangements...in the end, i wrote a few things for the record but the trio
still put their spin on everything..."
