AFTER 27 years of a musical relationship and a collective discography of over 18 records, Don Dixon and Marti Jones are finally releasing a record of duets. “We were surprised when we sat down and actually looked at the songs we’d recorded together prior to this… There weren’t that many.”
LIVING STEREO is a collection of 10 songs that involve the interaction of two voices. “Dixon wrote most of the songs,” says Jones. “I’m very lucky to be married to someone who writes so well for the both of us. It takes the pressure off me to be a songwriter. I love what he writes, because he writes for the singer.”
Jones’ long career as a singer is evident: three albums on A&M, one on RCA, and a pair on the legendary Americana indie label, Sugar Hill. She also released a cd, my Tidy Doily Dream, in 2002 on Dixon's own D.A.R. label.
Dixon is known by many as a record producer ( REM, the Smithereens, Marshall Crenshaw, plus, he produced all of Jones’ seven albums, )but he has also been recognized as a successful performer his entire life. He has a long string of self-produced albums and an impressive list of artists who have recorded his songs.
Dixon and Jones have long been performing live as a duo. “We figured out how easy it is to go on the road with just the two of us: one hotel room, one car, and one pocket for the money…”
